Weather Channel - Severe Weather Tomorrow

weather tomorrow

Several models continue to show a potent set-up for severe weather tomorrow. The most notable threat is a large, potentially damaging storm that could bring rain and hail to the region. It is possible that some of this may stay on the ground for several miles. This could trigger flash flooding and non-zero tornado potential.

An area of low pressure will develop to the east of Maryland, but it is not expected to produce enough snow to cause problems in the metro area. A sleet/freezing rain mixture will fall north of Interstate 95, and there is a chance of light snow showers over the valleys as well. Overnight temperatures will be in the upper 30s.

A weak trough will arrive this afternoon in Idaho and spread into the northern Plains. The low will move out of New England by Saturday, and it will then be replaced by colder air. There is a chance of a brief period of rain and snow through Monday, and the risk for significant ice accumulation will be significant as well. Some areas could see more than a half inch of ice, and some areas in Upstate New York could have over an inch.

Temperatures will remain below normal, with some areas in the mid-20s, and the rest of the area will be in the low to mid-50s. There is a small chance of snow showers over the valleys on Monday, and isolated thunderstorms are possible later in the day.

Another weak cold front will approach the region by late Wednesday, bringing a chilly northwest wind and the potential for more showers. The threat for more snow will also increase, with areas in the mountains likely to see a couple inches. The precipitation will freeze on roadways, and it is also likely to be hazardous to travel in the interior Mid-Atlantic.

The morning commute should be fairly treacherous, and the threat for a serious storm will be greater as the day goes on. There is a 50% chance of precipitation today, with winds gusting to 35 mph. The morning will be a mix of clouds and sunshine, and the morning temperatures should be in the mid to upper 20s. There will be a small chance of light snow showers through the evening, but this is not expected to accumulate significantly. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 30s.

A weak arctic front is forecast to move in from the west on Sunday, bringing an increased chance of precipitation. There is also a slight chance of a few showers on Tuesday. The weather forecast for the end of the week is much quieter, with light showers and a few cloudy days. However, the next round of storms is still expected to move in by Thursday and Friday, and they will be much stronger.

The highs for this weekend will be in the low to mid 50s. There is a chance of a winter mix on Friday, and some areas will have over an inch of snow. During the evening, there will be periods of rain that will mix with snow, and there is a chance of more rainfall on Saturday.
