Types of Movies

Action films are usually about high-stakes risks. They feature violence, disaster sequences, and fight choreography. They are popular with audiences looking for escapism. They are often commercialized products for mass consumption. They are often seen as entertainment, but they also raise issues of politics and social justice.

Documentary films are about social issues, and have influenced cultural attitudes. They often feature familiar patterns, such as family relationships, but they can also address social issues like the 1994 Rwandan genocide. They have led to significant changes in the way people view the world.

Movies are also propaganda. In the past, they were produced to inspire pride in being American, and to promote a neutral isolationist position. When the US entered World War II, the government hired Hollywood to make films for the war effort.

Films were also used for education, as recorded academic lectures. Streaming services have made them easier for mainstream audiences to see.
