During his career as a racing driver, Carroll Hall Shelby changed the way sports car racing was done in America. After a congenital heart defect, Shelby decided to retire from the sport. His next move was to start a company, Shelby Automobiles, in 1985. Eventually, the company would become Shelby Autosport.

The Shelby GT500 is a high performance variant of the Mustang. It features a larger front spoiler and carbon-fiber rocker panels. It also has a cat-back exhaust system that provides the Shelby GT500 with a throatier sound. It is available with a Street Legal version that produces 920 horsepower and a Track version that delivers 1,100 horsepower.

The Ford Racing Handling Pack includes special tuned dampers, lowered springs, and revised sway bars to help provide the race-like driving experience that Shelby fans expect. It also has a carbon fiber driveshaft and three-row intercooler. It costs about a quarter of the Shelby's base price.

The 2013 Shelby GT500 comes with a standard HID headlamps, a 900 hp engine, and a beefed up Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission. It also has larger fuel injectors and a new LED tail light assembly. The car also has new front end sheet metal and a larger clutch.

The Shelby GT500 also has carbon-fiber mirror covers, side skirt aero blades, and a Super Snake hood. The hood has a large bulge at the center and has several logos on the front and back. It has a Shelby-GT-H engine plaque. It also has a rear faux gas cap with Shelby GT-H logos.
