The first step is to register your account. You can do this online at your state's website. Or, you can visit a local customer service center to get the application. Once you have created your account, you can use it to pay for parking or tolls. You may also use it at retail outlets and gas stations.

If you've set up your account, you can pay for tolls or park at locations such as Pittsburgh International Airport. You can also change the minimum amount that you need to replenish your account. You can also opt to have prepayments automatically deposited when your balance gets low.

Some states, such as Illinois and Virginia, require a refundable $10 deposit when you get your E-ZPass transponder. In addition, some states charge an activation fee for the transponder.

Rhode Island charges $15 for the exterior and $10 for the interior transponder tag. Indiana requires a $12 annual fee. In Maryland, you can receive an E-ZPass annual fee waiver.
