A Quiet Place

Using experience growing up in rural Iowa, writer-director John Krasinski and producer Bryan Woods worked together on the story that led to A Quiet Place. The result is a horror film that explores the primal elements of life.

A Quiet Place is a post-apocalyptic film, which tells the story of a family forced to live in silence by mysterious, predatory creatures. A mother and her children must learn to survive in the absence of sound. They use American Sign Language to communicate, which helps them to survive.

In the movie, the family is not the only ones who are vulnerable to marauding creatures. The rest of the humans have been killed by aliens. The only survivors are the family members, who are afraid to speak out because of the dark others. They have created a stronghold, which includes a Monopoly game with soft silent pieces.

A Quiet Place has a $17 million budget, which was funded by the Platinum Dunes film studio. The movie holds a perfect 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which indicates it is one of the best horror movies of 2018. It also has received rave reviews for its sound design. The movie features a near-wordless soundtrack that Krasinski chose.

The creature designs in A Quiet Place are influenced by classic horror movies. The Xenomorph from Alien is a prominent example. Other designs include monsters in the film Super 8 and Godzilla (2014).

The movie's backstory was written before the film was shot. It explains how the monsters came to Earth.
